MAYBANK will host the sixth MyTIGER Values Art Competition to mark Global Tiger Day 2023.

The competition runs until June 1 and is open to students aged 18 and above in public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.

They can win cash prizes worth RM40,500 with their artwork.

The foundation of the competition is based on Maybank’s core values, represented by the TIGER acronym – Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence and Efficiency, and Relationship Building.

The contest is held in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that aim to end poverty, promote planetary health and ensure that communities can enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

This year, it will focus on 12 out of 17 SDGs. These goals are: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life on Land.

These goals are aligned with Maybank Foundation programmes focusing on the six pillars of Education, Community Empowerment, Arts and Culture, Environmental Diversity, Healthy Living, and Disaster Relief.

The competition is divided into three categories: Photo Imaging, Illustration and Sequential Art encompassing single to eight-panel editorial cartoon/comics.

Participants must submit their artwork in digital format and interpret and present any of the TIGER values or a combination thereof, with a focus on achieving the 12 SDGs through the listed medium.

Along with their submission, each participant must provide a statement or rationale of up to 200 words on their work and include their name, contact details, and the title of their work.

A high-resolution image artwork (300dpi JPEG) must be submitted by June 1. Participants are allowed to send a maximum of three works for one category or one work for each of the three categories.

All submitted artworks must be new, original and have never been exhibited before.

The entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges selected by Maybank Foundation together with Maybank.

Selected works will be printed and framed by the organiser for the MyTIGER Values Art exhibition, which will be open for public viewing from July 17 to Aug 12 at Balai Seni Maybank in Kuala Lumpur.

Three major prizes will be given in each category, with RM6,000 as first prizes, RM4,000 as second prizes and RM2,000 as third prizes. Additionally, nine jury’s special prizes worth RM500 each will be awarded to selected winners.

Maybank Foundation CEO Izlyn Ramli said, “Maybank has always been committed in supporting the arts and culture scene, which is also in tandem with Maybank’s mission of humanising financial services.

“We truly believe that arts and culture preserve a community’s sense of place.

“We also think this competition is a great avenue to discover good artists among Malaysians, providing them the space to express themselves. Last year’s competition produced some amazing results and we hope to see promising entries this year.”
