THE chariot carrying the statue of Muruga during the procession to mark the beginning of the Chitraparuvam (mini Thaipusam) festival attracted a large crowd at the Sree Maha Mariamman Temple in Queen Street, George Town.
Hindu Mahajana Sangam president Dr Chandra Malairaja said it was likely that more devotees were able to turn up for the procession due to the public holiday on Thursday, which was also Wesak Day.
