Food kiosks to help B40 students at universities

Saarani: Pilot project will be at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah.

FIVE kiosks selling affordable and nutritious food will be placed at selected higher education institutions under the “Mahasiswa Perak Sejahtera” initiative from June to help B40 students.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the initiative was a collaborative effort between Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBUDR) and Kotak Global Sdn Bhd (KGSB), adding that the pilot project would be implemented at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah in Kuala Kangsar.

“After its successful implementation, it will be expanded to other universities in the state.”

He added that the programme could produce entrepreneurs as well as generate job opportunities along the food and beverage supply chain based on digital platforms.

Saarani was speaking at a press conference at the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between YBUDR and KGSB.

Saarani said the move would also support the government’s efforts towards cashless payments by creating an ewallet platform for students when buying food from the kiosks. He also witnessed the exchange of MOA documents between the chief executive officers of YBUDR and KGSB, Datuk Ismail Safian and Fatima Chan Abdullah, respectively. – Bernama
