NEEDY children in Pangsapuri Damansara Bistari, Petaling Jaya in Selangor, are set to receive more educational help following a donation to a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) that has been giving free tuition.
Serikat Rakyat Malaysia director Mohamad Danish Shahmi Mohd Hairuddin was grateful for the donation of RM3,692 from the Bukit Gasing assemblyman’s office.
“This will enable us to continue providing free tuition classes to underprivileged children in this area.
“It will go towards the second season of our Free Tuition Programme, also known as Project IQ, in May,” he said, adding that education was vital to break the cycle of poverty.
The NGO offered a season of free English and Maths tuition classes to the Pangsapuri Damansara Bistari pupils from Nov 1, 2022, until Jan 11 this year, resulting in a significant positive impact.
Pangsapuri Damansara Bistari resident Rosita Md Nor, 41, said her son gained confidence in interacting with peers after he began attending the free tuition classes.
“I have noticed remarkable changes in him. He used to be so shy.
“I am grateful that my son can attend these free classes, as I cannot afford the cost of private tuition,” she added.
Another resident, Zulkarnian Abu Bakar said the free tuition classes had been well-received by primary school pupils.
“I am impressed by what the NGO has done.
“The pupils are highly motivated to attend every session as the classes are very engaging and interactive,” he said.
He added that his 10-year-old son Muhammad Amirul Zulkarnian improved academically within a short period after attending the free classes.
The donation handover was attended by Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran and Petaling Jaya City Council Jaya Zone 9 councillor Yip Sean Yi.
Mohamad Danish said the programme not only provided free tuition but also free nutritious meals for pupils after each class to promote awareness about the importance of micro-nutrients.
Many pupils have shared that they are delighted to participate in the programme.
