SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) continued its annual welfare programme called “Program Ziarah Kasih Ramadan MBSJ” to assist the needy during the festive season.

The local council collaborated with its partners, the Selangor Welfare Department (JKM) and Aeon BIG Subang Jaya, to assist a dozen families living in SS19 and USJ8.

“A total of 12 low-income families residing in low-cost flats in SS19 and USJ8 benefitted from the programme this round,” said MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid in a statement.

Six of those families stay at the low-cost flats in Jalan SS19/7A while the other six live in Pangsapuri Court 4 in USJ8.

“Each family received a food basket from Selangor JKM and Aeon BIG Subang Jaya, RM200 cash and a box of care goods from MBSJ,” he said.

The programme was part of MBSJ’s efforts to engage the local community and carry out its responsibility to “leave no one behind”, in this case to help the needy ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Azfarizal added that the programme was also in line with MBSJ’s efforts to realise the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), namely SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and SDG 17 (partnerships for sustainable development).

Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali presented the food baskets to the families. With him were Chia Yew Ken and Lee Jen Uyin, the MBSJ councillors for Zones 1 and 3 respectively.

Also present were JKM officer Ramacantiran M. Ananthan and Aeon BIG Subang Jaya representative Ganesan Verappan.
