MOTORISTS from Petaling Jaya in Selangor will be able to use the new flyover from Jalan Maarof in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, to Jalan Semantan to get to other parts of the capital city in May.
Sprint Highway engineering department head Francisco Anthony Doss said two out of three lanes would be opened to motorists.
“This is to help alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
“The third lane is expected to be opened in December,” he told StarMetro.
He said there would be an exit from the flyover to head to Jalan Maarof.
“Prior to this, motorists from Petaling Jaya need to make a U-turn before the flyover to get to Jalan Maarof.
“Soon, the U-turn will be eliminated and they will need to take the exit,” he said, adding that this was to ensure smooth traffic flow.
A map sighted by StarMetro showed there would be an exit ramp on the flyover’s right lane that would lead to Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT station, which later merged with Jalan Maarof.
According to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the flyover has been closed since Oct 29 last year to facilitate upgrading works.
In a StarMetro report on March 10, DBKL said the works involved the construction of a 1.34km three-lane flyover from Jalan Maarof to Jalan Semantan.
The project, which was to be completed in March, was extended to December because of material shipment delays.
On a related matter, StarMetro learned that there were plans to convert the adjacent one-way Jalan Johar into a two-way road to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
Currently, traffic from Petaling Jaya on the Damansara Link flows into Jalan Johar, before heading towards the interchange in Jalan Beringin. A DBKL spokesperson, when contacted, confirmed that there were such plans.
“The plans are part of a requirement in a development order,” he said, without giving the start date or elaborating further.
