PETALING JAYA: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has teamed up with the National Blood Bank to hold a Blood Donation Campaign themed “Donate Blood, Nobel Practice” (Derma Darah, Amalan Mulia) from 8.30am to 2pm on March 20 at the council’s headquarters at Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
MBPJ Health and Environment director Dr Chitra Davi N. Vadivellu said blood donation is safe for healthy adults and in order to give blood, a person needs to undergo a health screening.
“People must be physically fit to donate blood. Before a blood donation process, a trained medical employee gives a series of health checkups on the donor that is free.
“It does benefit the donor as the checkup involves body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, weight and haemoglobin. Regular blood donations will help a person to know blood pressure anomalies,” she added.
Dr Chitra added that according to the National Blood Bank, there is a need to top up the stock in the blood bank, especially in the run-up to major festivals.
“Our five-hour campaign next Monday will see Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir launch the event while National Blood Bank deputy director Dr Tun Maizura Mohd Fathullah, will give a talk on the benefits of blood donation.”
Dr Chitra added that MBPJ expects around 200 people to turn up to donate blood.
