BALLOTING session for Ramadan bazaar lots by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has gone hybrid this year.
Traders were required to participate through online platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Google Meet.
A physical session was also held on March 7 at the city council headquarters.
There were briefings on cashless platforms such as Boost Biz and MaybankQR, Selangor Platform (PLAST) and financial assistance by Hijrah Selangor.
MBPJ aims to encourage applicants to be in line with current technology trends when venturing into business by shifting from traditional to online payment.
MBPJ Licensing Department director Sharinaz Samsudin said it was vital for entrepreneurs to be knowledgeable on the intricacies of business.
“Entrepreneurs must have substantial knowledge of financial management skills, business administration and marketing to help themselves sail the course of their business.
“The knowledge and skills in application technology that is suitable for businesses can help productivity and raise quality of products and services,” she added.
A total of 895 applicants have taken up 1,336 lots at 21 bazaars in the city. The bazaars will open from March 23 to April 22, between 4pm and 8pm.
Among the locations of the bazaars are at Section 17/1A, Section 14/27, Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, Lembah Subang, Prima Damansara, Kampung Baiduri Section 51A, Damansara Damai Apartment Vista, Taman Medan PJS 2/3, Taman Sri Manja PJS 1/30, Desa Mentari PJS 6/5, and Kampung Lindungan PJS 6/3.
MBPJ also aims to fulfil the “Smart and Green Bazaar Ramadan 2023” initiative to promote sustainability by instilling a greener environment.
Apart from using cashless platforms, traders are required to use biodegradable and recyclable packaging and cutlery.
