Regular hygiene checks to be carried out at Ramadan bazaars

Mohd Haffiz: There will be 16 Ramadan bazaar sites in Iskandar Puteri this year.

ALL traders operating at Ramadan bazaars within Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) have been reminded to observe high standards of hygiene and cleanliness when preparing food.

Iskandar Puteri mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the city council would not compromise with Ramadan bazaar traders who fail to keep their stalls and the surrounding areas clean.

“Our enforcement officers will make spot checks starting from the first day of the Ramadan bazaar,’’ he said after the MBIP full board meeting.

He said the bazaar traders must ensure high level of hygiene and cleanliness as Ramadan bazaars in Johor Baru would also be attracting customers from Singapore.

Mohd Haffiz said there would be 16 such bazaars in Iskandar Puteri during Ramadan, which is expected to be from March 22 until April 21.

He said nine would be organised by MBIP and seven by private operators.

“All together there are 1,101 traders, of whom 652 are under us while 449 are managed by the private sector,’’ he said.

The bazaars are at Jalan P1 1/2 in Taman Pulai Indah, Jalan Kemuliaan 2 and Jalan Kebudayaan 16, both in Taman Universiti, Jalan Pulai Harmoni 1 in Kangkar Pulai and Jalan 2 in Lima Kedai.

Others are at Jalan Jasa 26 in Taman Mutiara Rini, Jalan Medan Nusa Perintis 2 in Taman Nusa Perintis, Jalan Batai 4 in Taman Sri Skudai and Jalan Perwira 19 in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah.

The bazaars managed by the private sector are located at the Perling Mall parking lot, Taman Perling; Jalan Persiaran Nusaria, Taman Nusantara; Sireh Park parking area, Jalan Pulai Mutiara 4/10 parking lot, Puteri Harbour parking lot and Dataran MBIP Skudai parking area.

In an unrelated matter, Mohd Haffiz said the city council was expected to introduce digital parking app for areas in MBIP within the next six months.

“MBIP is in the midst of developing the apps and with the introduction of digital parking, the coupon parking system will eventually be phased out,’’ he said.
