MORE than 400,000 users have downloaded the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) Spot V2 mobile application since it was introduced in 2016, says Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman.

The application has been recently upgraded with more features to enable petty traders and business owners to renew their trading permit.

“We have also updated our parking app to enable users to check vehicle parking summonses, pay parking on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, as well as access to the i-Trafik closed-circuit television (CCTV) to get a live feed on traffic situations around Johor Baru.

“With these updates, MBJB has become the first local council in the country to fully digitalise the parking lot management,” he said during the full board meeting at Menara MBJB, Johor Baru.

The app also allows users to help friends and family members in paying the parking fees if they do not have the app, by registering their vehicle number and making online payment.

“Users would also be able to identify private parking spaces, multipurpose hall locations and food courts under MBJB,” he said.

The app also has space for individuals or companies to advertise their products.

“Effective June this year, all MBJB parking lots will be fully digitalised and parking coupons will no longer be accepted,” said Mohd Noorazam.

“This is part of our effort to move towards a cashless society and digitalise our services.”

He also said MBJB would be installing an additional 500 CCTV’s around the city centre from June.

“Those who have downloaded the app can also access the CCTV footage to get real-time information,” he said.

The cameras will be placed at hotspots and public areas.

On another matter, MBJB secretary Miswan Yunus said the city council would allocate 2,896 Ramadan bazaar trading lots at 49 locations in Johor Baru.

“From the 2,896 trading lots, 1,030 are those provided by MBJB with a rental fee of between RM250 and RM600,” he said.

He added that the remaining 1,866 lots were those provided by the private sector with a ceiling price of RM600.
