A PERMANENT centre may be set up in Ampang for people to buy essential food items at subsidised prices, says Rodziah Ismail.

The Ampang MP also said the centre would not be for all but only those from the lower-income B40 group.

"The setting up of a permanent centre will help shorten waiting time.

"It will be a step forward in government efforts to address the issue of poverty," she said during a press conference at Karnival Mesra Selangor held at Padang Meteorite in Ampang Jaya here on Sunday (March 5).

The event saw people turning up and waiting in line to buy groceries subsidised by the state such as eggs, chicken, fish and meat.

Eggs were sold for RM10 per tray of 36, chicken at RM10/1.5kg and mackerel (ikan kembung) for RM6/kg, at the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) tent.

Many lined for up to one-and-a-half hours under the hot, morning sun before they were served.

At present, the JER programme remains a mobile operation which is set up at selected locations.

The public can obtain information on these locations from the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation website or its social media pages.

Rodziah, who is also Batu Tiga assemblyman and Selangor housing, urban well-being and entrepreneur development committee chairman, said with the overwhelming response, she had brought up the subject of permanent centres for subsidised goods with the Home Ministry.
