PUTRAJAYA Corporation (PPj) distributed around 10,000 Federal Territory flags to residents groups and schools in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day on Feb 1.

Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Rosida Jaafar made the symbolic presentation at Kompleks Perbadanan Putrajaya, as part of the Raise the Flag campaign running throughout February.

Sixty residents associations, 54 Rukun Tetanggga and 27 schools in the administrative capital received the flags.

Rosida said while the department had instructed all building owners to put up the FT flags at their premises to mark the celebration, it would not go to the extent of issuing compounds to those who did not do so.

“The flag is a symbol of sovereignty and should be raised during celebrations. However, to issue a compound in the current economic situation is not recommended.

“We will consider incentives for those who fly the flag, such as discounts for licence renewal,” she added.

Rosida also distributed aid to 100 poor families in Putrajaya in line with FT Day’s main focus this year – people’s welfare.

Each family received RM100 worth of food items and a RM200 voucher.

Also present at the event were Federal Territories Department deputy director-general Datuk Parang Abai @ Thomas and PPj president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud. — By VIJENTHI NAIR
