THE Chinese New Year celebration at SetiaWalk Mall in Puchong saw over 100 people having an enjoyable evening with performances galore.
The celebration on Feb 3 was jointly hosted by Subang MCA and JMB SetiaWalk.
Visitors were entertained to an acrobatic lion dance show, as well as music, singing and dance performances from four local schools.
There were also several booths offering Chinese delicacies, handmade jewellery, scented candles and scrumptious snacks for sale.
One of the visitors who truly enjoyed himself was Pedro Marques, from Portugal.
“It is truly an amazing cultural performance,” said Marques, who is lives in Bandar Puchong Jaya.
The 37-year-old applauded the Chinese community here for keeping such traditions alive.
“I have lived in China for more than a decade, and it is my first time watching a lion dance,” he said, noting that lion dance was mostly performed in the southern part of China.
SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong 1 student Mabel Law Xiu Hui was delighted to be performing on stage for the celebration.
The 16-year-old erhu player said she had previously performed at other celebrations.
“It is magnificent for the students, as I am only from a school club and invitations to perform outside the school are extremely rare,” she told StarMetro, before thanking the organisers for letting her perform in public.
“The stage in SetiaWalk Mall is wonderful to perform on,” she added.
Subang MCA chairman Lawrence Chiew told StarMetro that the Chinese New Year celebration was to provide the opportunity for students to improve their confidence and gain exposure.
He said it was just one of the many ways the party was trying to help students by giving them a chance to performance on a public stage.
“All of MCA’s recent efforts are for the future generation,” he said.
