Many people may feel it is strange to hold a Chinese New Year celebration at Nirvana Alliance Memorial Park in Sibu.

Its Sibu branch business operation manager Bernice Wong explained that they held the event there to encourage more families to visit the place.

“Many parents still think that a cemetery is not a go-to place for children. We want them to discard that old-fashioned view.

“We haven’t had a Chinese New Year celebration here for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that there are no more movement restrictions, people are very eager to go out,” she said.

Wong thanked the public for supporting the branch which was set up 20 years ago.

Fun activities during the gathering included a lion dance, lucky draw and Chinese orchestra performance.

Among those present was the memorial park’s Sibu and Kota Kinabalu chief operating officer Au Kok Hua. – By ANDY CHUA
