Caught dead or alive: City council offers cash for rats

The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) is offering RM3 for each rat caught, dead or alive, from Jan 31 to Feb 4.

Through its Zero Rodent Project with Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre (Tidrec) Universiti Malaya, the five-day programme is offering cash in return through three simple steps.

Catch the rats at premises, send to any of the collection centres, collect a cash reward of RM3 for each rat regardless if it is dead or alive.

Three collection centres, namely Bagan Ajam Market, Bukit Merta-jam Market and Tambun Indah Market will be open from 9am to noon from Jan 31 to Feb 3.

The other collection centre at the city council’s animal pound in Permatang Tinggi will be open from 3pm to 4.30pm from Jan 31 to Feb 3, and from 10am to 5pm on Feb 4.

Apart from helping to cut down the rat population, the rodents caught could also be used for research and study purposes.
