Kulai council’s revenue exceeds target set

Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) has collected over RM134mil in revenue for 2022, says its president Natazha Hariss.

“As of Dec 22 last year, we collected RM134.36mil in revenue, surpassing our target for 2022 which was about RM131mil,” he said when met after the MPKu full board meeting.

Of the amount, RM92.72mil came from tax collection, RM12.99mil from non-tax revenue and RM28.6mil from non-revenue receipts.

“We plan to use 40% of the revenue collected for development, including upgrading and maintenance works.

“This includes the expansion of water catchment in Taman Aman as part of a flood mitigation plan, as well as the upgrade of food stalls under MPKu’s management.

“These projects are expected to begin in January,” he said.

The municipal council also hoped to improve its services and further develop the district, he added.

Among MPKu’s biggest achievements, said Natazha, was to put the Kulai Fast Lane concept in the spotlight.

Under the concept, a one-stop centre handles all applications by investors to set up operations.

It is meant to cut red tape, ease applications and speed up the approval process.

“MPKu adopted the concept a few years ago but only recently has it been widely recognised,” said Natazha.

He highlighted that some of the major investments the district received were as a result of adopting the Fast Lane concept.

He said MPKu held meetings with Iskandar Puteri City Council, Pengerang Municipal Council and Pontian Municipal Council to assist them in adopting the concept.

“Several other local councils will visit us next year to learn more,” he added.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had said the state would extend the concept to more districts to attract more domestic and foreign investors.
