Youth volunteers play their part in clean-up campaign

On: Johor Southern Volunteers always lend a hand to the state government’s programme.

MORE than 20,000 youths under the state government’s volunteer arm, Johor Southern Volunteers, are playing an active role in keeping the environment clean.

State deputy secretary Datuk On Jabbar said the Johor Southern Volunteers would always lend a hand in the state government’s Clean Johor programme.

“As of now, we have 23,000 youths aged 40 and below, including university students, spread throughout the state.

“The group’s objective is to carry out volunteer work when needed by government agencies including district offices and local councils.

“This includes the Clean Johor programme which is usually carried out on the weekends or after office hours,” he told StarMetro.

Johor Southern Volunteers would deploy its members to help agencies carry out programmes in their respective areas.

“Whether it is gotong-royong or cleaning up the streets, including drains, our volunteers will always be present to help.

“In a way, through such programmes, it encourages the youth to be actively involved in cleaning the streets and exposing them to volunteerism,” On added.

He also said youths who wanted to join Johor Southern Volunteers were encouraged to do so.

He added that there was no membership fee and those interested to learn more about Johor Southern Volunteers should visit its Facebook page.

“Besides helping the Clean Johor initiative, we are also involved in cleaning up disaster-stricken areas and helping the needy.

“We urge more youths to become members and volunteer to help those in need,” he said.
