Selangor govt lists down flood preparation measures

SELANGOR has ramped up preparations for the monsoon season, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

A total of 28 volunteers have been trained to carry out search and rescue works by the Fire and Rescue Department, he said.

“We also have 10,345 cubical tents and 332 mobile partitions available.”

The state also received 8,542 cubical tents from Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim,” he added.

Amirudin said the state also bought an amphibious vehicle and 30 inflatable boats costing RM1.16mil as part of its preparations to face the floods.

National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), he said, also gave RM450,000.

Amirudin was responding to questions posed by 12 assemblymen about the state’s flood preparations.

Michelle Ng (PH-Subang Jaya) raised the issue of a possible drought in 2025 and asked what preparations the state was making.

State infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry committee chairman Izham Hashim said the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) had gazetted 20 former mines and identified 78 new ponds as water catchment areas.

“Of these 98 ponds, the state has approved 21 to be upgraded under the Raw Water Security Scheme.

“These ponds will be able to hold two months’ worth of water reserve or 21 million cubic meters compared to the current capacity of 14 million cubic metres,” he said.

Izham said the public could view the water level at rivers and dams nationwide at http://infokemarau.water.gov.my
