Folk snap up groceries at subsidised price in Sungai Besar

PAKATAN Harapan candidate for Sungai Besar Saipolyazan Mat Yusop met constituents to promote the Selangor government’s Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat programme.

The residents managed to buy grocery items at subsidised prices under the state programme at Dataran Batu 23, Sungai Nibong in Sungai Besar.

Saipolyazan, 52, from PKR said he hoped the lower price for essential items would ease the burden of the mostly rural community as many were finding it hard to afford such items.

“This is an effective programme by the Selangor government to reduce the people’s burden of having to buy essential items like fish, chicken, beef, eggs and rice which have been selling at higher prices over the last few years,” he said.

The essential items at subsidised prices were sold to residents there from 10am to 1pm on Monday.

Among the items sold during the event were dressed chicken at RM10 a packet, 1kg of beef also at RM10 and Indian mackerel (kembung) at RM6 per kilogramme.

Eggs were sold at RM10 per tray, 10kg rice pack at RM10 and 5kg bottle of cooking oil sold at RM25.

“Under the Insan Selangor programme, Selangor residents receive free insurance for those as young as 30 days up to 80 years old,” added Saipolyazan.

For the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, Saipolyazan is in a four-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos from Umno, incumbent Datuk Muslimin Yahaya from Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu and Datuk Asmawar Samat@Samad from Pejuang. — By STUART MICHAEL
