RESIDENTS of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Thangam Illam (PKTI) enjoyed some festive cheer at an event to mark Deepavali.

During a visit to the home in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, gaming firm Da Ma Cai’s employees enjoyed Bharatanatyam and Bollywood dances performed by children of PKTI.

The visitors mingled with the residents before treating them to an appetising lunch.

Essentials and gift vouchers were also presented to PKTI secretary Saseikala Subramaniam.

PKTI chairman Jayakumar Shellamuthu and Saseikala expressed their gratitude to Da Ma Cai.

Jayakumar said, “The Deepavali celebration is not what it used to be.

“The financial hardship often leaves us feeling helpless, as everyone is still striving to recover (from the pandemic).

“The support we received is really of great help, as it gives us the strength to continue to strive.

“We love having visitors to enjoy the festivities together,” he said.

A resident, Letchumy, 69, said they enjoyed ourselves very much lighting sparklers with the children during Deepavali.

Another resident, Darshan, eight, said he was happy to receive a new set of clothes, special meals and treats.

“This initiative is an avenue for Da Ma Cai to assist communities by providing basic needs,” said a Da Ma Cai spokesperson.

“Spending a day as a volunteer is such a humbling experience.”

Founded in 1996, PKTI is a welfare home that provides food, shelter, education and care for 32 children, eight senior citizens and four special needs children.
