SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) held a grand carnival to celebrate the city’s second anniversary.
The two-day event attracted more than 3,000 people with families and local communities turning up for a fun day out after two years of Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions. Subang Jaya was declared a city on Oct 20, 2020.
In a statement, MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the city council held a first-of-its-kind march-past event with 35 contingents and 1,618 participants from MBSJ’s departments, residents representative councils and other stakeholders.
“Other highlights were the Subang Jaya Community Run that attracted 1,000 participants of different ages as well as a multicultural self-defence demonstration comprising silat, wushu and silambam,” he said.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Johary Anuar and deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali flagged off participants in the community run that had two categories – 10km and 5km.The next day, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari flagged off cyclists in a fun ride and criterium challenge.
The 26.8km-long fun ride saw the participation of people of all ages and fitness levels.
The criterium challenge had 10 categories, including open, junior and elite for men and women.
The carnival held on MBSJ headquarters grounds and Arena MBSJ in USJ 5, Subang Jaya featured 25 events.
They included doodle art and colouring competitions, display and sale of antiques, esports challenge, community sports, health screenings, woodball challenge, darts and carrom competitions, upcycling programme and a Retro Motor show.
“The activities were lined up to ensure they offered aspects such as social interaction, recreation and sports, in line with MBSJ’s efforts to make Subang Jaya a healthy city and prosperous community,” added Azfarizal.
