AIDS fundraiser today themed sustainability

Red Ribbon Gala, the flagship fundraiser of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF), takes place this evening.

The event will be graced by Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.

The 13th edition of the gala will be held at the Grand Lagoon Ballroom, Sunway Resort Hotel in Selangor.

MAF chairman Prof Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman said this year’s theme is “Sustainability”.

“This is apt as ending HIV and AIDS is one of Malaysia’s targets under the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“Under our collaboration with Sunway, we have an SDG target to end AIDS by 2030,” explained Prof Adeeba.

All proceeds from the gala will go towards sustaining MAF’s Medicine Assistance Scheme.

This is an initiative that helps underprivileged Malaysians living with HIV gain access to life-saving antiretroviral treatment.

Making a return along with the gala is the Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Award which is given to an individual or organisation that demonstrates the greatest level of leadership and excellence in driving the “Ending AIDS” agenda in Malaysia.

The award comes with a prize of RM20,000, trophy and certificate.

Red Ribbon Gala highlights will include a comeback performance by legendary Indonesian singer Krisdayanti as well as a gourmet presentation of local delicacies that are sourced sustainably by Sunway Resort Hotel.

A tier-1 table for 10 guests is priced at RM50,000 while a tier-2 table can be booked for RM25,000.
