JB business owners told to renew licence by year-end

BUSINESSES operating under the jurisdiction of Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) will have their licences automatically cancelled if they fail to renew them by the end of the year.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Noorazam Osman said owners could renew their business and signboard licences from Oct 1 until Dec 31.

“No penalty will be imposed if they renew within the stipulated period,’’ he said during the city council’s full board meeting.

He added that they could do this at the MBJB office in Jalan Dato Onn, Taman Johor Jaya MBJB counter or online at johor.ekhidmat.my

In the meantime, he said all businesses that use parking bays in front of their premises would be charged for the use of the space.

“Payment must be made when the licence is renewed.”

He said licence holders of high-risk activities such as spa and massage services needed to submit an application for business and advertisement licence renewal inspection first through the MBJB Licensing Department at Level 5, Menara MBJB.

“We will ensure our licensing and financial departments will operate at full capacity during the renewal process,’’ said Noorazam.

On a separate matter, he said a study to address pollution at Sungai Tebrau had been conducted under Rancangan Kawasan Khas Sungai Tebrau.

The study was to look at ways to rehabilitate and develop the river stretch into a green belt for recreational, tourism and biodiversity activities.

Noorazam said a Malaysian Environmental Quality 2018 report categorised Sungai Tebrau as Class IV, one of the most polluted rivers in the country.

“The study covers an area of 25,679ha or 256.79sq km,’’ he added.

Residents, taxpayers, landowners and stakeholders are welcome to give their feedback on the project by accessing the survey forms until Oct 31.
