The Australian Good Design Awards in-person ceremony returned this year after a two-year hiatus.

Australian furniture brand King Living won awards in the Product Design category for its Kato Sofa, King Cove Sun Lounge and Quay Dining Table.

The sofa was designed in partnership with founder David King and senior designer and continual improvement manager Tanya Rechberger, while the sun lounge and dining table were both designed by senior designer Alinta Lim.

Rechberger, who was thrilled with the recognition, said: “I continuously seek to find new and innovative ways to create designs that enhance our lives.

“I congratulate the whole King Living design team who are part of this win.”

The Good Design Awards jury commented, “A contemporary modular style incorporating wonderful functional benefits and tech features such as wireless charge, power, lighting and storage. Offering convenience and flexibility, this is a very thoughtful solution for a busy home life. Well done.”

Lim said the sun lounge was designed in response to lifestyle trends.

“Previously, our outdoor collection featured only sun lounge brackets that were a modification of a sofa, rather than a fully dedicated design. “The King Cove Sun Lounge was a response to lifestyle trends, where people have shifted into placing more focus on outdoor spaces and the time they spend there.

“The Quay Dining Table was originally formulated as a response to our laid-back Australian lifestyle and love for entertaining.

“For Quay, we offered the option for a ceramic finish and our KingCote frame to really create that seamless indoor-outdoor living space our customers desire,” she added. The brand has won a host of awards for design excellence in a range of categories.

Last year, the team took home Good Design Awards for the Fleur Sofa and Vertio Wall System.
