SINCE its inception in the mid-1990s, Sibujaya has grown tremendously.
It has a population of 35,000 with over 6,000 homes and a vibrant commercial precinct of more than 300 shops.
“We have always regarded Sibujaya as ‘our child’ and we are very focused on doing things that will nurture its growth,” said Amcorp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim at the launch of a mega concert in the township.
“We are always looking into ways and means to grow this community,” he said.
Azman said the Amcorp team was also very appreciative of the Sarawak authorities’ efforts which had led to Sibujaya’s growth.
“This has brought much benefit to the people of Sibujaya,” he noted.
He said the mega concert was Amcorp’s way of giving back to the people.
“Seeing their happy faces and reactions – that’s just priceless.
“It is not just about buildings and infrastructure, even though they are extremely important.
“It is also about building a community with a soul,” he added.
Activities such as the concert, along with the SibuJaya Water Fiesta, the Sibujaya Motocross and the Sibujaya Carnival were all part and parcel of community-building, said Azman.
Towards this end, he said Amcorp collaborates with authorities such as the Sibu Rural District Council.
“I believe the Sibujaya Water Fiesta, when organised on an even bigger scale, has the potential to draw visitors from beyond the shores of Sarawak.
“And this will lead to more business activities for the people of Sibujaya,” he said.
More than 5,000 people flooded the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre for the concert featuring performances by Azman and his music group, alongside Dayang Nurfaizah, Hafiz Suip, Rickie Andrewson, Ricky El and band acts AT Adau and The Crew.
A mega fireworks show brought the curtain down on the concert just before 11.30pm.
Among those present at the carnival were Senator Robert Lau who represented Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, councillor Teo Boon Siew who represented Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, community leader Pemanca Datuk Jason Tai, Deputy Sibu Resident Christopher Ranggau Unting and more than 30 Amcorp Group employees from the Klang Valley.
