AS NATIONAL para-athletes begin preparing for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, they will be receiving support from one of the world’s largest insurance companies.

In a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, Allianz Malaysia Bhd announced its partnership with the National Sports Council (NSC) to support the national para-athlete programme for the next three years.

Para-athletes will benefit from the sponsorship of their training and development ahead of the Paralympic Games that will be held from Aug 28 to Sept 8, 2024.

Additionally, Allianz Malaysia will provide insurance coverage for the para-athletes during training, competition and when they travel.

Allianz Malaysia chief executive officer Sean Wang said the company was proud to partner with the NSC in support of para-athletes.

“Malaysia’s Paralympic success over the past few years has been awe-inspiring, and through this sponsorship, we hope to empower our athletes to fulfil their sporting potential.”

NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail expressed gratefulness that Allianz Malaysia stepped up to sponsor the athletes who have limited resources.

“Our athletes are world-class and win medals, including at the Paralympics. To continue bringing glory to the country, they require intensive training and regular competitions and Allianz Malaysia’s contribution will go a long way in helping them.”

Allianz Malaysia is also introducing a programme aimed at engaging both active and retired athletes including para-athletes.

The programme includes mentorships and coaching sessions to help them improve their financial literacy and soft skills required for their future career development.

The athletes may also participate in a referral programme that could serve as a source of passive income.

The support for the Malaysian para-athletes stems from the partnership Allianz established in the Worldwide Olympics Partner Programme in 2021 and with the Paralympic Movement that began in 2006.
