Agencies prepare for dangers of rainy season

TO HANDLE the upcoming wet season, Penang government has taken several measures including appointing focal persons in every district to coordinate steps to be taken in emergencies.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said three-man teams would be formed from land and district offices and other agencies.

“A workshop involving 70 personnel from various departments was held to brief them on better management of disasters,” said Chow at a press conference in Komtar.

He also said the state Finance Department had allocated a budget of RM400,000 to buy equipment to be distributed to the various districts.

The state also received 4,744 C-tents for distribution.

“On Sept 29, the state Disaster Management Committee will meet again to assess our level of preparedness for the north-east monsoon.

“The Village Community Management Council, non-governmental organisations and emergency response teams are all prepared for any eventualities,” added Chow.
