A RESOURCE centre has been set up at the Damansara Bistari low-cost flats in Petaling Jaya.

The 1,000sq ft resource centre in Blok B houses three air-conditioned rooms comprising a discussion room, a computer room with a mini library and a mini classroom.

Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran and Petaling Jaya City Council Zone 9 councillor Loyis Uding launched the room, dubbed “Ruang Bistari.”

Rajiv and Loyis contributed close to RM15,000 to upgrade the centre at the low-cost flats in Section 19.

The money was used to purchase three desktop computers as well as desks and chairs, among others.

Rajiv said most students living there did not have access to a laptop or desktop computer.

“We wanted to create a conducive space with free WiFi for students to do their homework and have discussions.

“Other residents are also welcome to utilise this space,” he said during a press conference.

The resource centre is open from 9am to 5pm daily.

Loyis said there were plans to work with NGOs to conduct free tuition classes at the resource centre.

Blok B chairman Fauzi Abuyamin said the resource centre would enable students and other residents to use their time beneficially. – By KHIRTHNADHEVI KUMAR
