Some parts of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, are in darkness at night because of faulty street lights.

Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said street lights along a 1km-long stretch of the MRR2 from Taman Tasik Metropolitan to the junction of Taman Daya were not working for two months.

“The Gombak Public Works Department (JKR) found that electrical components from the street lighting feeder pillar had been stolen.

“This poses a risk to road users as it can get very dark at night without street lights,” he said during a site visit to Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong.

He advised motorists to be alert when using the MRR2 especially during heavy rain.

Yee also urged the public to report to the police if they see anyone stealing parts from the feeder pillar.

He added that it would cost about RM100,000 to replace the stolen parts and the approval process was often time-consuming.

“Due to budget constraints, JKR might not be able to solve this problem anytime soon,” he said.

“We urge the Works Ministry and Selangor government to work hand-in-hand and consider the possibility of taking over the maintenance work of MRR2 from JKR,” he added.

Yee said residents had also been complaining about the poor road condition and lack of cleanliness of MRR2 from Batu Caves to Sungai Buloh.

“There are potholes and rubbish along the road as well as water ponding because of the uneven surface.

“After receiving numerous complaints, JKR says clean-up work is expected to start in mid-September,” he said.

He hoped JKR would take the initiative to maintain the condition and cleanliness of MRR2 regularly.
