Johor State Housing Development Corporation has requested an allocation from the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) for repairs to 20 people’s housing projects (PPRs) and rumah sewa kerajaan (RSKs) in the state.

Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said repair works for the PPRs will involve replacing street lights and broken pipes, upgrading playgrounds, repairing roofs and repainting buildings.

“We will also repair manholes and sewage treatment plants,” he said, adding that there had been complaints by residents.

Some of the PPRs awaiting repairs are PPR Uda Utama, PPR Perling, PPR Desa Mutiara, PPR Sri Stulang, PPR Sri Iskandar, PPR Setia Indah, PPR Melana Indah Fasa 1 and PPR Melana Indah Fasa 2 in Johor Baru.

The RSKs are in Larkin and Taman Cendana in Johor Baru as well as Batu Pahat and Kluang.

“The request was made during a special meeting with Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican at his office in Putrajaya.

“The state government delegation was led by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi,” said Mohd Jafni.

He said the minister gave his word to provide an immediate answer to the state’s request.

Mohd Jafni said the state had received RM13mil from the ministry to repair amenities at PPR Kempas Permai.

He explained that out of that amount, RM10.3mil was spent on 21 new lifts at all seven apartment blocks.

“The remaining RM2.4mil will be used to repaint the PPR blocks,” Mohd Jafni said, adding that eight of the new lifts were installed in the past two weeks with the rest to be added later.

The new lifts were supposed to start operating in January next year but the state government had requested that the project be sped up.

Mohd Jafni also said that the state had submitted a proposal to KPKT to build a new PPR scheme on a 3.6ha plot in Larkin.

He added that the proposal was made due to the area’s high population.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz announced on his Facebook page that the state government had also requested that all affordable housing projects be coordinated under the National Affordable Housing Council.

“We also discussed the eco waste proposal by Pasir Gudang City Council to reduce the amount of rubbish generated and promote recycling,” he said.
