IN THE spirit of giving back, watercolour paintings by a pupil of SJKC Bukit Serdang will be sold to upgrade facilities at the school in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
Year Five pupil Chan Ellen, 11, said she wanted to do her share for the school’s efforts to raise RM1mil.
“It took me about two hours to produce each painting with input from my dad, who is an artist,” Ellen said during a press conference at the school.
SJKC Bukit Serdang advisory chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong said enrolment at the seven-year-old school was increasing.
“We opened in 2015 with only 250 pupils but it has risen to 1,200 this year.
“Each level can take in 200 pupils but we have received more than 400 children.
“We need to upgrade the facilities in line with the demand.
“We plan to equip the hall with teaching and learning equipment,” he added.
The school is hosting a fundraising dinner in conjunction with the launch of the hall on Nov 26.
“We managed to build this hall for about RM4mil. It also houses a canteen and classrooms.
“However, we do not have funds to equip the hall with amenities such as LED lights as well as teaching and learning materials.
“We aim to raise RM1mil and any balance will be used to build two basketball courts,” said Liew.
Top One Vision Care chairman/chief excecutive officer Desmond Wong, who is a parent of one of the pupils, said he would channel proceeds from the sale of eyewear to SJKC Bukit Serdang’s parents, teachers and pupils at his Taman Equine outlet to the fundraising effort.
