DRIVING on Jalan Broga in Semenyih has become dangerous, no thanks to non-functioning street lights.
People living in the Eco Forest housing estate at the junction of Jalan Broga want authorities to do something before a serious accident happens.
The stretch leads to University of Nottingham Malaysia and Kampung Broga before reaching Jalan Semenyih which is dark at night as most of the lights are not working.
Insurance agency manager Garry Chow, 41, told StarMetro that the situation was dangerous.
“We get a lot of visitors who go hiking in Broga Hill and visit eateries along the road during weekends.”
He also said that the link road from Eco Forest towards Bandar Tasik Kesuma was in a deplorable state with big potholes.
“It has been like this for months and we want the authorities to do something about it,” he said.
Customer service executive Subhashini Shankar, 25, who lives in Eco Forest, said motorists using the pitch-dark Jalan Broga also had to be careful to avoid stray dogs wandering in the area.
“I use that road every day and I hope the street lights there would be repaired soon,” she said.
When contacted, a spokesperson from Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) said maintenance of the street lights along Jalan Broga near the Eco Forest access road was the responsibility of the Hulu Langat Public Works Department.
“The link road from Eco Forest to Bandar Tasik Kesuma is under the management of the developer.
“It has not been handed over to MPKj for maintenance.
“Any complaints from residents should be directed to the developer or sent to MPKj and the council will relay it to the developer.
“MPKj encourages the public to lodge complaints via the Respons Rakyat Kajang mobile app,” said the spokesperson.
