Pop queen Aishah in concert with MPO

Malaysian pop queen Datuk Aishah (pic) will join the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) in a concert at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow night.

To be led by conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, the Aishah & MPO: A Symphonic Rendezvous concert will continue to affirm MPO’s musical versatility that transcends genres, from classical masterpieces to film music, pop, jazz and contemporary works.

Founded in 1998, MPO has continued to inspire audiences of all ages in Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam and Australia.

This latest collaboration with Aishah – an established household name with many hit albums under her belt and over 32 years of experience in the music industry – is a long-awaited showcase.

This will be Aishah’s first-ever solo concert with MPO on the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS stage.

Her previous appearances with MPO were as one of the featured artists at Malaysia’s Virtual National Day 2020 Reception concert alongside Akim Ahmad as well as at the Semalam Di Malaya concert alongside Liza Hanim, Musly Ramly and Rachel Guerzo in 2018.

Aishah stormed into the music scene in 1987 as the front person for New Zealand pop group The Fan Club.

She went on to launch a successful solo career in 1990 with her debut album Aishah.

Since then, she has released several hit albums and won many local music awards, including Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian’s first Most Popular Artist and Most Popular Female Singer for three consecutive years (1990– 1992).

She also won Anugerah Industri Muzik’s (AIM) Best Female Vocal in 1995 and 1996.

Besides that, she was crowned the champion of Astro’s Gegar Vaganza in 2017.

The MPO concert, which starts at 8.30pm, will see Aishah showcase her legendary powerhouse vocals through symphonic renditions of her most-loved tunes, including Seloka Rindu, Fatwa Pujangga, Kemaafan Dendam Yang Terindah, Janji Manismu and Camar Yang Pulang.

All songs are specially arranged for the concert and have been given fresh interpretations by arrangers such as Gerard Salonga, Luqman Aziz, Jenny Chin, Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, Ilham Subri, Vivian Chua and Azhad Sulaiman.
