AN independent review panel comprising experts in water engineering and water catchment basin management will be established to study the Penang water crisis which occurred from July 6 to 11.
Penang infrastructure and transport committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said members of the panel would be announced in the near future and the panel would be given two to three months to finalise its findings.
“The panel will examine and review all information contained in the post-mortem report of the water crisis prepared by Penang Water Supply Corporation.
“The panel will identify all the factors and weaknesses responsible for the crisis.
“It will also propose short-term, short-medium and long-term measures to prevent future water crises to the state government,” he said in a statement.
He added that the decision to set up the panel was agreed upon during the recent state executive council meeting.
