A GROUP of Petaling Jaya residents have sent a memorandum to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council on the proposed PJD Link, urging it to review the highway project.
Coalition Against PJD Link leader Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir said previous requests to meet with Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari were ignored.
Sheikh said the memorandum was submitted by Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew.
The group, at a press conference, also said they were seeking a meeting with the presidential council within a month.
Liu said he would raise the issue during the current Selangor state assembly sitting.
PJD Link is a proposed 34.3km expressway between Damansara in Petaling Jaya and Kinrara in Puchong.
Sheikh raised concerns that the project could affect businesses in Jalan Professor Khoo Kay Kim, Jalan Harapan and Section 17.
“Many owners are worried that the highway will increase traffic volume and pollution,” he said.
Last Saturday, a group of residents from Damansara Jaya and Bandar Utama protested in Lebuh Bandar Utama, and said they would send a memorandum to the state and federal authorities to appeal against the PJD Link.
On Aug 26 last year, the Selangor assembly was informed that the Federal Government was finalising a concession agreement for PJD Link.
State infrastructure and public amenities committee chairman Izham Hashim said Selangor agreed to the project in principle on Sept 30, 2020, but with conditions.
These included completing land acquisition matters before starting construction and holding talks with the local council regarding a river reserve area.
On May 17 this year, Izham told the assembly that the concessionaire must fulfil the pre-concession agreement within 12 months.
He also noted that the state would reject the project if environmental, social and traffic impact assessment reports failed to meet the stipulated conditions. — By FARID WAHAB
