PENANG Barisan Nasional will place candidates in seats traditionally contested by Gerakan in the next general election.

Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said seat negotiations and decisions would be made at the national level since Gerakan is no longer part of its coalition.

“Once the seat negotiations among Barisan partners are finalised, an announcement will be made by the respective party presidents,” he said after attending the Tanjong MCA division delegates’ annual meeting in George Town, Penang.

Gerakan quit Barisan in June 2018 to become an opposition party after Pakatan Harapan took over the Federal Government. It joined Perikatan Nasional last year.

During the event, Tan said that Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Penang had signed a memorandum of understanding with five Malaysian-owned factories on July 15.

“The agreement will help the graduates gain work experience through internships.”

He said TAR UC had prepared nearly 300,000 graduates for the workforce to contribute to the Malaysian economy.

Tan added that donations from Penang for the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital in Kampar, Perak, had reached RM1mil.

“This shows that the community here cares and is concerned about education and the growth of the university,” he said.

Tanjong MCA chairman Loke Poh Chye was present at the delegates’ annual meeting.
