Selangor government plans to develop a 809ha land into a dedicated aerospace industrial park called the Selangor International Aero Park.
A soft launch was held at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Farnborough International Airshow 2022 in Farnborough, United Kingdom.
The Selangor International Aero Park is intended to cater to the increasing demand from existing and new industry players to set up APAC regional operations in Malaysia.
Present at the soft launch were Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, state industry and trade committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim and Deputy State Secretary Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid, who is also State Economic Planning Unit director.
The aerospace industrial park will be made possible through collaborations between the state government, property developers as well as key aerospace and aviation agencies and industry players.
It is designed to be a free trade zone and cater to activities such as maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), aircraft teardown, aircraft retro fitting, engines and aero manufacturing as well as training, research and development.
The park will have state-of-the-art hangars, office complexes, test bed facilities and bonded warehouses in addition to having direct access to existing runways to ease movement of aircraft going in and out of the park.
In acknowledging the importance of strengthening Malaysia’s aerospace and aviation industry sustainably, Selangor has identified the industry as one of nine focus sectors in its Rancangan Selangor Pertama (RS-1) 2021-2025.
Invest Selangor Bhd will also be organising the second edition of the Selangor Aviation Show from Sept 8 to 10 in Subang.
The expo was developed with the objective to promote and position Selangor as a preferred aerospace hub in the region.
