A SOLUTION to the decade-long flash floods in Tasek Permai, Ampang Jaya in Selangor, is in the works.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) councillor Mohammad Firdaus Babh said short- and long-term flood mitigation measures would be carried out by the local council and state Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS).
“After a site visit with MPAJ and JPS last month, several suggestions were forwarded on how best to resolve this issue.
“As a short-term measure, MPAJ has allocated RM500,000 to upgrade the drainage along a 500m stretch of Lorong Permai B.
“The council is currently in the process of appointing a contractor and we expect works to conclude in six months,” he said.
Mohammad Firdaus said JPS would seek funds from either the Federal or state government to expand and deepen a portion of Sungai Kerayong nearby.
“We were told that work would take more than a year.
“It is important that we address the flood situation here as Jalan Taman Putra is one of the main access roads into this neighbourhood.
“When it floods, it can take more than half an hour for the water to subside and this causes major traffic congestion too,” he added.
