Kuantan tennis courts to get RM136,000 refurbishment

The MBK tennis courts in Taman Gelora will be repaired using an allocation from Youth and Sports Ministry.

THE Kuantan City Council (MBK) tennis courts in Taman Gelora, Kuantan in Pahang, will be repaired at a cost of RM136,000 from an allocation by Youth and Sports Ministry.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said repair works for the eight tennis courts would take about a month beginning August.

“The tennis courts were last repaired 12 years ago.

“The recent national-level inter-team tournament held here proved that the Pahang Tennis Association worked hard to develop the sport.

“As such, it is only reasonable and timely for the ministry to grant this allocation,” he said at a simple presentation ceremony.

Ti said he hoped that with better playing conditions at the tennis courts, more players in Pahang could have the opportunity to further improve their game.

He added that it would be an opportunity for the association to organise more tournaments in the future and scout for players who could compete at the national level.

Also present were Pahang Tennis Association president Datuk Armin Rahman and state Youth and Sports Department director Mu’azamir Jili.

Ti said the ministry was committed to developing sports infrastructures and facilities to make Malaysia a sporting nation.

However, he said there were no plans to build new sports arenas as the priority now was to refurbish and repair existing facilities.

He urged the public to be responsible when using sports facilities.

It is understood that MBK is prepared to hand over management of the tennis courts to the association.
