Thousands turned up for the fifth edition of the Ampang Jaya Night Run (AJNR) which made a comeback after two years.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) organised the run in front of Melawati Mall in conjunction with the local authority’s 30th anniversary.

The event was also aimed at raising community awareness of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

It kicked off with traditional dances and Zumba sessions to rev up runners. Then they were flagged off by Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib.

Saari was joined by council secretary Julaihah Jamaludin, Ampang Jaya district deputy police chief Supt Mohd Azam Ismail and Mentri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) property development and planning chairman Ahmad Ashraf Asnan.

The route took the runners to an area near the stunning Klang Gates Quartz Ridge.

MPAJ partnered with Kembara ES Sdn Bhd and Extreme Venture to organise the run.

The programme also received support from MBI, Melawati Mall, IJM Land, Sime Darby Property, Lintasan Kota Holdings Project Sdn Bhd (Prolintas), F&N Beverage Marketing Sdn Bhd, Synteq Medical Sdn Bhd, N8 Sports Nutrition and Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd.

Many participants showed up in interesting outfits as one of the contests was for Best Costume.

The were four categories for runners — open and veterans’ run for men and women.

Cash prizes were offered to the top three finishers and a lucky draw held after the run added more cheer.
