SEVERAL interesting cultural, arts and heritage programmes have been lined up for the next few months in Perak.

State housing, local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said 10 events had been lined up from July to November.

She said the events were part of the state’s Arts, Cultural and Heritage Appreciation programme organised jointly by Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, the Perak government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local authorities.

“The ministry has allocated RM1.18mil through its grants to several NGOs in the state to cover the implementation cost, while a part of it was granted by the state government,” she announced at a press conference held at the state Cultural and Arts Department.

Nolee Ashilin said the programmes would include a traditional food festival in Kuala Kangsar (July 30 to 31), cultural games (Aug 20 to 21), craft festival in Teluk Intan (Aug 25 to Sept 5), art trail tour around the state (July 1 to Sept 4), and a music symposium (Oct 21 to 23).

She said other interesting events were poem and folk songs festival (Sept 8 to 10), dance festival (Sept 22 to 24), stage performances (Nov 25 to 27), theatre performances (Oct 14 to 16) and Perak Theatre Academy workshop in December.

“I am hoping these programmes will create a huge impact in our efforts to preserve and promote arts and culture.

“We hope more outstation visitors will come for the events, and we hope to attract more foreign tourists as well,” she added.

Nolee Ashilin hoped that such events would foster unity among the multiracial community.

She said this was also a good platform to enhance synergy and cooperation between the tourism industry and players in the cultural sector in transforming Perak into a preferred travel destination.

“People from other countries will be able to see the uniqueness of our arts, culture and heritage, be it from the aspect of food, customs, culture, history or even literature,” she added.
