Bashir Alias appointed Labuan Corporation president

FORMER Labuan Corporation advisory board president Datuk Bashir Alias has been named as the seventh Labuan Corporation president.

His two-year term started on July 1.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim made the announcement at Menara Seri Wilayah, Putrajaya.

“He replaced Datuk Seri Amir Hussien, whose term ended on June 30. Bashir has vast experience in Labuan with his previous involvement in the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Farmer’s Organisation Authority and the Labuan Corporation advisory board.

“With his experience, I trust that he will continue to improve the economic ecosystem in Labuan to ensure the industries continue to progress and remain sustainable,” he said.

Amir was meanwhile announced as the new president for the Labuan Corporation advisory board, a position vacated by Bashir due to his new appointment.

Besides having held the helm at Labuan Corporation, Shahidan said Amir also has the experience as the Labuan Welfare Organisation chairman and former member of the Labuan Malay Chambers of Commerce Malaysia.

“With his experience and leadership, the Labuan Corporation advisory board will have a strong support system and be capable of giving advice on better service delivery of a local government,” he said.
