Net proceeds from the sale of Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye’s biography titled Call Lee Lam Thye: Recalling a Lifetime of Service will be donated to charity.

“I have always believed in contributing to worthy causes, they are close to my heart.

“I hope my contribution will encourage others to also pledge support for charities that are currently facing financial problems,” said Lee.

The hardcover book is priced at RM70 each, while the softcover version is RM50.

The Bahasa Malaysia edition will be available soon.

“I am humbled by the fact that my memoir has attracted much interest and is continuing to do so.

“Some people have asked me why I chose to publish my book at this time,” said Lee.

“My answer is simple. In another few years I will be an octogenarian, so I feel it is time for me to leave a legacy and a message for the next generation.

“I just want to inspire Malaysians to do more to serve the nation.

“I was once a people’s elected representative in Parliament and would like to express what I think the role of an MP should be,” he added.

In his book, Lee shared about his past experiences in serving the electorate.

He also highlighted the importance of volunteerism and the important role that NGOs could play in nation-building.

“Close to my heart are efforts to build a sustainable safety culture, especially at a time when we see so many needless accidents at workplaces, on the roads, in recreational areas and even at home.

“My overriding message in my book is that there is a need for all Malaysians, irrespective of race, colour and religion, to work together and truly demonstrate how we can have unity in diversity,” he said.

On a personal level, he said, “I wish for this book to put to rest the baseless and vicious rumours regarding my departure from politics.”

He added, “I would like to record my grateful thanks to my editorial consultant Philip Mathews and the writers Sofea Chok Suat Ling and P. Selvarani.
