RM3mil set aside for kids orphaned by Covid-19

THE state government has allocated RM3mil for the implementation of Anak Johor Prihatin programme in 2022.

Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin Nisa Ismail said the programme was designed specifically for children who lost their parents due to Covid-19.

The state government implemented the programme through Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Ta’zim (YPKDT).

“It is a long-term initiative to care for the orphans to ensure their welfare and future education until they reach the age of 21.

“One of the initiatives is the education savings aid and insurance coverage till they reach the age of 21.

“These children will receive RM100 per month until they finish schooling and those who continue their education to the tertiary level will receive RM2,000 cash per year in assistance.

“Apart from that, moral support is offered in order to build the personality and identity of the target group so that they do not feel lost and can continue their schooling in peace along with other children,” she said.

She was responding to a question from Rashidah Ismail (BN-Pasir Raja) and Anuar Abd. Manap (BN-Pemanis) who wanted to know how much was allocated for Anak Johor Prihatin programme during the state assembly meeting held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Kota Iskandar.

Khairin said the assistance provided was in the form of counselling services, motivational programmes, meetings with leaders, family gatherings and food baskets.

She added that the state government had received 17 applications for the programme from the Pasir Raja constituency and 17 applications from the Pemanis constituency.

“In total, YPKDT has received 1,151 people’s data for Anak Johor Prihatin so far.

“The highest number of applicants comes from Johor Baru with 432, followed by Kulai (117), and Muar (116), she said.

“The state government is always committed and concerned about the orphans left behind by the Covid-19 pandemic,” she added.
