LIFE has taken Penang artist Rosalynn Teoh far and wide, enriching her with a unique appreciation of the natural wonders seen during her travels.
This is evident at her solo show titled “Journey of Life 3.0” which is ongoing at the Penang state assembly building in Lebuh Light, George Town. Most of her 50 pieces revolve around flora and fauna, done in a style which she describes as a blend of techniques from Western fine art and the spirit of traditional Oriental art.
“I’ve had an affinity with nature since young. It made me extremely observant.
“What I see never ceases to fascinate me, from the tiniest changes in my plants to great wonders like Yosemite National Park in the US,” said the artist who lived in San Francisco, the US, for a while.
Teoh recalled being so awestruck by the forest at Redwood National Park that she could not stop hugging a tree.
Besides the US, she also lived in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Singapore for over a decade and visited other Asian countries such as China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.
But there is no place like home, and she eventually returned to Penang a few years ago.
“I’m honoured to exhibit my works in the historical state assembly building,” said Teoh at the launch of her exhibition. She has taken part in 24 solo and group shows to date.
The exhibition was opened by Penang state assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang and state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.
The show ends tomorrow and is open for viewing from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.
