More vacancies open to jobseekers

The unemployment rate in Johor dropped 0.7% to 3.2% for the first quarter of 2022 compared with the same period last year.

According to state youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resource committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, the number of jobless people in Johor dropped to 58,600 compared with 70,800 during the same period last year.

He said the Johor Human Capital Strategic Unit (SMI) was actively conducting the Johor Skills Training and Johor Career programmes as well as announcing job vacancies on its social media platforms throughout the year.

“This year, SMI is targeting 1,169 people to benefit from courses in various fields as well as job placement opportunities,” he said during the state assembly meeting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail on Monday.

He was replying to a question from Aznan Tamin (BN-Tanjung Surat) on the current unemploy-ment rate and measures to create more jobs.

Mohd Hairi said the training programme’s four main components, namely Johor Upskilling and Reskilling, Johor Skills Oil and Gas, Postgraduate Training and Skilled Manpower Certification, offered a total of 44 courses to the target group.

Through the Johor Career Programme held last month, SMI Johor offered 883 vacancies in eight firms.

The programme will also be held in Kluang this July (central zone), followed by Muar in August (northern zone) and Johor Baru in September (southern zone).

“A total of 623 job vacancies were announced and advertised by SMI via social media from January to May this year,” added Mohd Hairi.
