A NEW drop-off point for ewaste has been initiated in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, following a successful pilot project in January.

The second drop-off point is located at Kompleks Muhibah in Taman Nirwana and allows for disposal of bulk ewaste such as refrigerators and washing machines.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) secretary Julaihah Jamaludin said some 1.6 tonnes of ewaste had so far been collected from the first drop-off point at Menara MPAJ.

“This tells us that there is more awareness now about the importance of disposing of ewaste properly,” she said during the launch.

Some RM20,000 was allocated to set up the ewaste drop-off point at the complex.

Julaihah urged residents to make use of the service and not resort to illegally dumping their waste.

“We hope to increase the number of drop-off points which will be identified later,” she said.

Also present at the launch were MPAJ Health and Environment Department director Ghazali Abd Wahab and area councillor Masurah Maidin.
