Thiam Lai Yean Foundation has donated an ambulance to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital and RM3mil to the UTAR-Lim Yong Keat Student Loan in aid of needy students at the university.

The ambulance was handed over to UTAR Hospital at the foundation’s Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre in Kampar, Perak.

UTAR Hospital board chairman and university council member Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dr Chuah Hean Teik expressed his gratitude to the foundation.

“Your generosity will benefit the hospital and the community who will need the ambulance in emergencies,” he said.

He also thanked the foundation for the RM3mil that would benefit underprivileged students in medicine and engineering programmes, as well as medical staff undergoing Medical Specialist Training programmes.

“We are happy that the foundation and UTAR share the same goal in ensuring deserving students, regardless of their backgrounds, have the opportunity to receive quality education and pursue tertiary studies,” Prof Chuah added.

Meanwhile, foundation advisory committee member Lim Yoke Cheng thanked UTAR for allowing them to do their part for society.

“It is our honour to have the opportunity to live up to the hospital’s motto of ‘by the people for the people’,” she said.

“I also wish to thank (UTAR council member) Datuk Lim Si Cheng for sharing with us about the hospital, leading to this relationship we now have with UTAR,” she added.
