MPAJ acts to free up illegally 'booked' parking spaces

TRAFFIC cones, flower pots and old chairs used to illegally hog parking bays were removed by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) during a recent operation.

The items were confiscated by enforcement officers as they were found to be obstructing public spaces and roads.

“The operation was carried out at the Rumah Pangsa Kos Rendah 420 in Bandar Baru Ampang and Rumah Pangsa Kos Rendah Taman Bakti in Taman Cempaka following complaints.

“Those with similar issues can lodge a report via aduan.mpaj.gov.my or WhatsApp 019-266 8100,” it said in a social media post on Monday (June 20).

The enforcement garnered positive reactions from the public, with some commenting that stern action should be taken against those who illegally reserve parking bays.

A frequent visitor to Pandan Mewah, Mohd Shahrul, said many bays were reserved by shopowners for their own use.

“Even on weekends and public holidays they leave chairs and other items, preventing others from using them,” he wrote.

One commenter said there should be notices warning the public of the potential repercussions of "reserving" parking spaces.

“The public can also use these signs to tell off those who are unaware.

“High fines should be imposed on offenders to prevent such situations from recurring,” he said.
