Malaysian Golf Junior Association (MGJA) wants to develop a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Golf Academy to produce athletes with outstanding sports and academic achievements.

MGJA president Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said the cooperation between the association and UiTM Sports Science and Recreation Faculty would help the varsity’s students become professional golfers.

“Details are still being discussed,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties in Shah Alam.

At the ceremony, MGJA was represented by Irmohizam and deputy president Mohd Zurie Harun while UiTM was represented by vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor and faculty dean Prof Dr Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor.

Prof Roziah said the academy was expected to be established two years from now, upon finalisation of details and approval by the Higher Education as well as Youth and Sports ministries.

“So far, there has been no discussion at the UiTM Executive Council level.

“We will inform of our intention through a working paper by the faculty which will be forwarded to the executive council,” she said. — Bernama
